The Muslim side has approached the Supreme Court, challenging a Varanasi court order that allowed Hindus to worship inside the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi. However, the committee has been asked to take the matter to the Allahabad High Court.

A Varanasi court has granted permission for Hindu devotees to worship inside the sealed 'Vyas ji Ka Tehkhana' area in the basement of the disputed Gyanvapi mosque. Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, who is representing the Hindu side, reportedly said, "Hindu side is  allowed to offer prayers at 'Vyas Ka Tehkhana'. The District Administration will have to make arrangements within 7 days. Everyone will now have the right to perform puja."

This comes as Varanasi court on Wednesday allowed Hindu devotees to offer prayers inside the Vyas Ka Tekhana area inside the Gyanvapi mosque complex. | Latest News India

The Supreme Court has allowed a plea by Hindu women plaintiffs for cleaning the water tank in the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi, which is sealed. The court ordered the cleaning under the supervision of the Varanasi district magistrate. The court also noted a similar plea filed by the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee.

ASI had carried out a survey of the Gyanvapi Mosque premises to determine whether the structure was constructed over a pre-existing Hindu temple.

The district and sessions court will on Thursday consider the report submitted in sealed cover, according to the ASI's counsel.

The Archeological Survey of India (ASI) submitted its survey report on the Gyanvapi mosque complex to a district court, with a hearing scheduled for December 21. The report, submitted in sealed cover, aims to determine if the 17th-century mosque was built over a pre-existing Hindu temple structure.

The scientific survey of the complex was ordered by the Varanasi district court on July 21 this year.
