Morning fire destroys apartment building under construction in Midtown Savannah By Jennifer Lifsey | April 15, 2021 at 5:49 AM EDT - Updated April 15 at 11:14 AM
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Fire crews extinguished a large fire behind Habersham Village in Midtown Savannah Thursday morning.
According to the Savannah Fire Department, the fire destroyed a three-story apartment building that was under construction in the 4600 Block of Habersham Street. The building was fully engulfed when SFD crews arrived at the scene around 2:40 a.m.
“We found a three-story building, under construction, that was fully involved. And it was impeding up to the exposure to another three-story building. So, it was a two-alarm fire,” said Battalion Chief Steven Frazier, Savannah Fire.

For Do Savannah
On an overcast Tuesday morning, the staff of Wormsloe Historic Site welcomed their newest teammate, Kim, a five-year-old Sheppard mix. Kim, on loan from the Humane Society as part of “Dogs with Jobs,” will work for the day as a Bark Ranger.
Her task? To get adopted.
The Humane Society for Greater Savannah launched a new adoption program “Bark Rangers, which happens every other Tuesday at Wormsloe Historic Site. The next Bark Ranger reports for duty on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
“You can’t get a much better partnership,” said Wormsloe site manager, Gretchen Greminger. “The dog gets to spend a day in the woods, and we get to hang out with a fun, four-legged friend. The dog socializes outside of the kennel and gets to release some pent up energy.”
