The EPA has added five sites to its Superfund National Priorities List which is aimed to provide public safety and environmental protections.

The agency is also proposing adding two additional sites.

The 24.8-acre property on Black Oak Ridge Road was acquired by the Academy of Greatness & Excellence, which has served Muslim students for nine years.

The Superfund National Priorities List includes the nation’s most serious uncontrolled or abandoned releases of contamination.

The designation prompts a cleanup of the Hackensack River, including the EPA identifying polluters to pay for the cleanup.

The two-story, 14,000-square-foot facility has rowing machine, storage and meeting space in a push to expand access to the countys waterways.

Thousands of contaminated sites, from landfills, and processing plants, to manufacturing facilities exist nationally due to hazardous waste being dumped, left out in the open, or otherwise improperly managed.
