Hundreds of young athletes from around New Zealand gathered at King's College in south Auckland on Friday for the annual Halberg Games.

This was Ashmit Danney's first time competing at the Halberg Games.

Sport Whanganui hopes to return to next year's games with a bigger team.

Sir Murray Halberg, one of New Zealand's greatest athletes who is best known for winning the 5,000 metres title at the Rome 1960 Olympics, has died aged 89.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, Manawatū, Dsport, Tasman, Canterbury, South Canterbury, and Otago/Southland all had teams.
