It was almost a tough start to an important series for Oregon softball against Arizona following a near perfect game by opposing pitcher Hanah Bowen, but in the bottom of the 7th inning a heroic home run by Terra McGowan gave the Ducks a shocking 2-1 victory over the Wildcats. It was a pitcher’s duel the whole way as Brooke Yanez went toe to toe with Bowen until the 6th inning when she gave up a home run to Redshirt-Junior Hannah Martinez. Besides Arizona’s one big hit Yanez was dominant throughout the rest of the ballgame. She totaled 8 strikeouts and only allowed 2 hits and a walk. It would have been a tough luck loss for Yanez as she did more than enough to keep her team in the game even though she did allow a home run to Arizona’s nine-hole hitter.

EUGENE Oregon went from no offense at all through six innings to a walk-off winner over Arizona.
Brooke Yanez allowed one run on just two hits and a walk and struck out eight over seven innings yet was in line for the loss until Terra McGowan smashed an 0-2 pitch to left for a walk-off two-run home run as the No. 12 Ducks came back to beat the No. 7 Wildcats, 2-1, Friday afternoon at Jane Sanders Stadium.
“From the moment that our team stepped on the field I could feel them today,” Oregon coach Melyssa Lombardi said. “It was taking us a little bit longer than what we wanted on offense, but it was worth the wait.”

EUGENE A month-long gauntlet stretch of Oregon softball’s season comes to a close with senior weekend against No. 7 Arizona.
The No. 12 Ducks (31-13, 9-9 Pac-12) are 5-11 over the last four weekends, which have included three top 12 opponents in UCLA, Washington and Arizona State.
UO has slid to sixth in the Pac-12 entering this weekend but is still ranked in the top 15 because of the caliber of its schedule and quality wins over some of those premier opponents. To stand any chance of hosting an NCAA Regional in two weeks, Oregon will likely need to at least split this weekend’s four-game series with Arizona (33-8, 11-5 Pac-12), starting this afternoon (4 p.m., ESPN2) at Jane Sanders Stadium.
After beating up on some bottom-dwellers the past two weeks, No. 7 Arizona (33-8, 11-5) heads to No. 12 Oregon (31-13, 9-9) for a critical four-game series in Eugene starting Friday at 4 p.m. PT on.

Oregon appeared to be one of the teams that could possibly challenge Oklahoma and UCLA at the top after its April 9 win over the Bruins.
It was the second victory of the season over UCLA, which were the Bruins only two losses at that point. However, things have changed quickly for Oregon.
UCLA won the rest of the series. Washington took three of four from the Ducks. Stanford split the series in Eugene and had a lead in every game at one point.
