Election officials in Uganda are still counting the votes from Thursday's presidential election. Incumbent Yoweri Museveni appeared to take an early lead. But the leading opposition candidate, pop singer-turned-politician Bobi Wine, is alleging fraud. The World's Halima Gikandi reports from Uganda's capital, Kampala.

Last year, protests over high prices of bread and fuel eventually led to the ousting of dictator Omar al-Bashir. The country has since undergone an unprecedented wave of political and social changes as it works to rejoin the international community. Still, the economy is struggling. The World's Halima Gikandi reports from the capital, Khartoum.

The conflict in Ethiopia’s Tigray region began more than a month ago between the Tigray People’s Liberation Front and Ethiopia’s federal government. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said the region has now returned to normal. He’s claimed that no civilians were killed during the weeks of military operations there. But more than 50,000 Ethiopian refugees have fled Tigray for neighboring Sudan, and they tell a different story. The World’s Africa Correspondent Halima Gikandi reports. ...

After more than a month of fighting, Ethiopia's prime minister has said the conflict in Tigray is mostly over. Now is the time to rebuild, he says. But with communications mostly blocked and access to Tigray tightly restricted, the United Nations is warning the situation is spiraling out of control. The World's Halima Gikandi reports.
