Up to 60 mourners met at a home on Canterbury Street in Punchbowl, in Sydneys southwest, to pay their respects to gunned down underworld figure Mahmoud Brownie Ahmad.

Police sources tell Daily Mail Australia Mahmoud Ahmad, also known as Mr Big, had no obvious connection to Greenacre, where he took his last breath on Wednesday night.

Mr Big Mahmoud Brownie Ahmad had previously dodged another attempt on his life when he was tipped off about a hit on him in front of families at Rushcutters Bay in Sydneys east.

The warring western Sydney families have been vying for turf, drug contracts and status for more than a decade but detectives have never seen the battle so one sided.

Ibrahem Hamze, 29, the cousin of Brothers for Life leader Bassam Hamzy was arrested by Queensland Police officers on the Gold Coast on Monday just weeks after his cousin was shot dead.
