More than 107,000 people in the United States died from fentanyl overdoses last year. Two-thirds of overdose deaths in Virginia in 2021 involved fentanyl.
The purpose of the summit was to build a small community of students across lines of difference, with hopes that their sense of community will ripple out into the larger community as they look to make more inclusive changes in their schools.
"This is going to be a very difficult situation," said Dr. Regina Karp, the Director of Graduate Programs in International Studies at Old Dominion University.
