Two young fashion entrepreneurs in Hanoi are borrowing inspiration from Vietnamese folk art as they transform ordinary burlap into one-of-a-kind fashion statements.
Dao Thu Trang, 31, and Tran Quynh Anh, 29, founded local fashion brand ‘La La La’ in 2020 with a commitment to promote eco-friendly clothing with a strong connection to Vietnamese culture.
Born in Thai Binh Province, a land known for its widespread production of jute trees and burlap fabric, Quynh Anh has been familiar with the material all her life.

After six years spent building hundreds of playgrounds for urban children in Vietnam, architect Chu Kim Duc was named by the
BBC as one of 2020’s top 100 influential women worldwide.
Duc first set out on a mission to reclaim public spaces for children after stumbling across a collection of photos by a foreign photographer who had spent significant time photographing urban playgrounds in Vietnam.
“[The photographer] flew across the world hoping to help Hanoi develop more child-friendly spaces, recalled Duc, the 41-year-old director and co-founder of social enterprise Think Playgrounds.
