A recent investigative report discovered that a third of the top hospital systems in the United States, including North Carolina-based Novant Health, had a tracking tool on their websites that sends sensitive health information to Facebook. Novant says it has removed the tracker from its MyChart online portal while it investigates the issue. It also says the tracker was never used on any New Hanover County Regional Medical Center site.

SOUTHEASTERN NC Over the past week, North Carolina is reporting Covid-19 cases at 718,812 and 8,695 deaths, with a 10.5% daily positive rate among those being tested. Though the overall numbers continue to rise, the seven-day average for new cases dropped from 8,711 on Jan. 11 to 6,199 on Jan. 18. The death average over seven days also went down, from 91 on Jan. 11 to 71 on Jan. 18.
SOUTHEASTERN NC Over the last seven days across North Carolina, more than 60,000 Covid-19 cases have been reported with more than 500 deaths. Just on Saturday, Jan. 16, the state marked 7,986 cases and 83 deaths.
Though Gov. Roy Cooper in line with the federal government and Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations has opened up vaccinations this week to include all people 65 and older, as well as frontline healthcare workers and long-term care facility workers, supply is still trickling in slowly as case numbers rise week by week.

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - The New Hanover County Garden Club hosting its annual Art & The Bloom event. This year 28 artists made floral arrangements inspired by artwork from private collections and the Wilmington Art Association. Each arrangement is created with real flowers.
“Designers get six weeks before the event they get a random pic they don’t pick their art,” said Sharon Van Teyens Art and the Bloom Co-Chair. They designed the artwork that we give them.”
