Frazer Clarke hailed GB Boxing’s sensational return to the ring as they secured seven medals, three of which were gold, at the Bocskai Memorial Tournament in Debrecen, Hungary.
Clarke, Harvey Lambert and Lewis Richardson all climbed to the top step of the podium in their respective 91+kg, 69kg and 75kg divisions during a brilliant week for Britain’s boxers.
World champion Lauren Price had to settle for silver in a narrow 75kg final defeat to the Netherlands’ Nouchka Fontijn on a split decision, while featherweight Nico Leivars, lightweight Gemma Richardson and welterweight Rosie Eccles all secured bronze.

WELSH star Lauren Price and Nouchka Fontijn have a rivalry that spans European, World and now Bocskai finals. In Hungary on Friday (February 12) the Netherlands’ Fontijn scored a split decision revenge win over Price, who had beaten her (after a scoring recount) at the last World championships in Russia in 2019. It will be interesting to see their series continue at the upcoming European Olympic qualification event once it is rescheduled.
While Price had to settle for a silver medal in Debrecen, three of her GB team mates did secure gold medals.
Olympic hopefuls head to Hungary
A GB team enters the Bocskai tournament to prepare for postponed Olympic qualifier
OLYMPIC hopefuls will be part of a GB team that is entering the Bocskai tournament in Debrecen, Hungary from February 8-12.
Lauren Price (75kgs) will box for the first time since winning the World championships in 2019, similarly Frazer Clarke (91&kgs) and Cheavon (91kgs) will also be competing for the first time since the men’s Worlds that same year.
Lewis Richardson, who got in one bout the Olympic qualifier last year before it was suspended, will go at middleweight.
Amateur boxing is currently suspended in the UK, though professional or elite athletes, i.e. those on an Olympic programme, are allowed to train and compete. All the boxers will be tested for Covid-19 before flying to Hungary on Friday (February 5). Social distancing protocols will be in place throughout the tournament venues and all coaches and officials will wear personal protective equipment (P
