Oregon Encyclopedia reports that
she and herÂ
third husband, fellow burlesquer John Becker, purchased the since-demolished Capitol Theatre on SW 4th Street in 1952
. Their local competitorâthe Star Theaterâgave top marquee billing to Beckerâs ex-wife, Maybelle Anderson, a.k.a. Arabella Andre, who Star owner Betty Roth, a.k.a. Candy Renee, brought to town from San Francisco.Â
Life andÂ
Billboard magazines reported on the drama that ensued: Anderson faked an acid attack on Storm and assaulted Becker in downtown Portland, while Storm and Becker attempted to have Anderson declared criminally insane and wrongfully committed to Morningside Hospital (now the site of Mall 205). Storm left Portland not long after 1953, divorcing Becker and selling the Capitol Theatre in the process.Â

Tempest Storm, the fiery redhead known as a burlesque icon who starred in early Russ Meyer films, has died. She was 93.
Storm died in her Las Vegas apartment Tuesday, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported, and had been battling dementia in recent months. She also was struggling after undergoing hip surgery on April 8 and was under round-the-clock care until her death.
"Tempest was easily one of the best-known and highest-regarded burlesque [performers] of all time, and was an active part of the burlesque community right to the end," Burlesque Hall of Fame executive director Dustin Wax told the Review-Journal. "She will be missed terribly in the burlesque community and well beyond it."
