PORT WASHINGTON, NY The sprawling colonial set on a hill overlooking the bay in Sands Point where journalist Margaret Truman spent one summer on Long Island has been listed for $1.7 million.
The fact that the home once was rented by Truman is very interesting to realtor Nicole Eskanazy of Douglas Elliman Real Estate. So many people ask me, Who s Margaret Truman? and I say, Are you serious? she laughed.

LAKEWOOD, WA A commercial fire burning hazardous materials forced evacuations Thursday morning, as first responders struggled to combat a cloud of potentially toxic smoke.
According to West Pierce Fire, firefighters were first alerted around 6:40 a.m. to a commercial building on fire at 2310 104th St S, in Lakewood, just north of SR 512.
Firefighters were warned that the building contained hazardous materials, which had caught fire, kicking up a cloud of toxic smoke.

There is a building fire in Lakewood near 112th St and Steele St. SR-512 is being shut down both directions. Avoid the area. County is evacuating as the smoke is potentially toxic. I ll update as I get details.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA MoneyGeek, a personal finance technology company, has released its ranking of the safest and most dangerous small cities and towns in the U.S. The study found that in 2020, many Americans fled large cities in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, searching for a sense of security in small-town America. While many smaller cities and towns do have fewer crime incidents than big cities, small cities and towns are not universally safer than their larger counterparts.

WAUKEGAN, IL Just over a year after the legalization of recreational marijuana in Illinois, the Lake County Board directed its staff to begin a public hearing process that could allow adult-use cannabis businesses to open up shop in unincorporated parts of the county.
In late 2019, after extensive debate, board members agreed to a one-year moratorium on recreational cannabis. That moratorium is due to expire Feb. 10.
