OPINION: Abuse laws come 40 years too late for Catholic Church

The DePaulia Hayley DeSilva, Staff Writer|June 6, 2021 After thousands of reported cases of sexual abuse, the Vatican has finally updated its canon laws for handling cases within the Church standards which haven’t been touched since the 1980s.  The new canon laws, or a set of laws set by the Roman Catholic Church to be followed by members of the religion, sought to streamline and clarify how to deal with child sexual abuse. The biggest of these changes included requiring all priests and nuns to become mandated reporters, making grooming for sex or child pornography illegal, and enforcing punishment within the Church like defrocking.

It’s led a new variant of burnout to trend languishing.  Languishing takes burnout to a whole new level. It’s more than just exhaustion; it’s an overwhelming feeling of emptiness and stagnation.

OPINION: DePaul's words mean nothing without action to back them up

In light of horrific hate crimes against the Asian population that occured last month in Atlanta, DePaul issued a statement on March 31. The message, less than 10 sentences in length, served as a reminder of unity and overcoming hate within the university. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with the meaning or intent of the.
