it s pretty stunning. president trump says still he had a huge impact on the election. what do you think? i do think it s hard for donald trump not to have an impact on any election right now. he s such the dominant force in american politics. the white house, his campaign team is pointing out the other five statewide republicans on the ballot in kentucky yesterday all won. he mentioned their names too and came in to rally for them. the big race was matt bevin s race. did he help him? matt bevin was behind in this race, he had high unfavorables, he wasn t a popular governor at all. what s also true is that donald trump was not able to go and overwhelm turnout to the degree he needed to overcome turnout on
bit of a laboratory going into 2020. one of the things they re looking at is suburban voters. what was the role? it s a little dangerous to learn too much from a gubernatorial race in kentucky. the first thing we look for is, are we in a new political environment or did voters who went to the polls yesterday tell us we re in the same political environment that we were in this 2018, the midterms. it hasn t shifted that much. we still see in the suburbs real erosion for republicans in the trump era. this has been the story of american politics in the year of donald trump. what used to be a republican stronghold, part of republican coalition of victory was the suburbs. that is now a democratic advantage. they ve made real in-roads there. it is what delivered the mouhou majority to democrats in 2018 and it is what helped andy beshear to be poised to be the next governor of kentucky. look at the numbers.

time, rand paul is enjoying it all because getting nothing done proves nothing can get done and doing nothing is what his philosophy is. he wins twice. well, you know, chris, i ve done a lot of writing and using vital statistics on congress, great resource on productivity and sort of how you measure it. this congress, this house has passed 22 bills in its first eight months roughly that have gone to the president for signing the previous low ever before was 28 bills. you ve seen 81 bills, 17 bills passed in past congresses. the argument and i want to get it out there because lots of republicans, and you heard john boehner talk about it lots of republicans say you re missing the point. the point here is that democrats control the white house. democrats control the senate. the only thing we can do here is we disagree philosophically and fundamentally with the ideas that they are pushing. the only thing we can do is to say we re not doing these things and thereby we are preserving
the democrats gave george w. a free ride. they said it happened, nobody knew it was going to happen. we re not going to butcher you politically over this. it was the first time it was ever done. as the secretary of state said, no one imagined them using planes, although they did. if that had happened under obama s watch, i tell you, it would have been impeachment time. by the way, obama plans to attack within the united states. i remember the way the secretary of state had to read it with no affect that time at the hearing they said it doesn t have any punch. i know. it was standout moment. osama bin laden determined to attack the united states. my eyes popped out of my head when that happened. i know, i know. remember, this is the president who escalated the war in afghanistan. and we are now drawing down. but it just doesn t make any sense to say that he has totally recoiled, that he is afraid of conflict. he has blown these guys up with drones. he doubled down in afghani
