New Mexicans wait for shots as COVID vaccine supplies slowly increases

ALBUQUERQUE – Weekly shipments of two vaccines for COVID-19 continue to increase, with New Mexico expecting 72,510 doses next week  nearly 4,700 more than the previous shipment. State Health Secretary-designate Tracie Collins and Human Services Secretary David Scrase, both physicians, gave a joint progress update in a video news conference Wednesday afternoon.  New Mexico has received 454,350 doses in total of vaccines developed by Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna, and has administered all but 51 of them, per data from the health department  making New Mexico the third-ranked state nationwide for using its vaccine allotment.  Both vaccines require two doses, spaced weeks apart, for full vaccination. Collins reported that New Mexico has now fully vaccinated 143,578, or 7 percent of New Mexico s total population.
