New microblading business opens at Ashmun Street
The Sault News
Symmetry Studio, located on 2104 Ashmun St., just opened up last month and is already booked out weeks in advance.
Heather Atkinson, who is the only employee at the business, has lived in Sault Ste. Marie most of her life. The inspiration came from having her eyebrows microbladed last fall. Microblading is defined as a cosmetic semi-permanent tattoo on your eyebrows to give the look of fuller, thicker eyebrows. The results usually last around two to three years.
“I thought it was something we needed in our community, especially now with COVID and having to wear masks and only seeing people s eyes,” said Atkinson.

After battling breast cancer five years ago and going into remission, she was told last year it had returned and spread through her body. The paddling community has paid tribute to Atkinson following her passing, with Mooloolaba outrigger and women s coach Jenny Rasmussen sharing plenty of fond memories. She was just a positive and inspirational kind of person, Rasmussen said. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she d always have a go. (The word) Can t wasn t really in her vocabulary - it was just how am I going to do this . Rasmussen said Atkinson had been a member of the Mooloolaba club for almost 10 years, after joining from fellow paddling group Panamuna Outrigger Canoe Club.
