DragonFire isn't the name of a new Game of Thrones spinoff, but it is possibly powerful enough that it could shoot down the mythical beasts from the hit series House of the Dragon. It is the new high-power laser weapon that is being developed to counter aerial targets, including drones.

DragonFire, a new laser weapon system built for the UK MoD, was first unveiled at DSEI 2017 in London during its design phase. For the development work, MBDA has grouped expertise from Leonardo, QinetiQ, MBDA, Arke, BAE Systems, Marshall and GKN.

 

The Ministry of Defence revealed it has successfully tested a new high-powered laser weapon, blasting drones out of the sky at £10 a shot.

The Ministry of Defence has said the laser "boasts pinpoint accuracy" and can cause "structural damage or more impactful results if the warhead is targeted".
