Home prices dropped 3 percent last year; Cheaper in most municipalities

An average owner-occupied home cost less in seven out of ten municipalities last year than in 2022. According to Statistics Netherlands (CBS), the average sales price of a home was 416,000 euros, compared to around 429,000 euros in 2022. That is a decrease of 3 percent. Prices fell in all big cities - including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, and Eindhoven.

All international trains to Germany will be running again on Monday. The NS confirmed this after the German union GDL announced on Saturday that the train drivers' strike would end earlier. The major six-day strike by Deutsche Bahn (DB) staff was originally due to last until 6 p.m. on Monday. However, the GDL union announced on Saturday that the work stoppage will now end at 01:00 a.m. on Sunday.

FlixBus doubles its bookings to Germany due to strike

Twice as many passengers are taking the bus to Germany now that train workers in that country have gone on strike, reports bus operator FlixBus. Due to the six-day strike, the longest ever on German railroads, a FlixBus spokesperson said that there is more demand for alternative means of transport than during previous work stoppages on the railways in Germany.

Stubborn bull saved from high waters in Itteren

The bull that has been blocked in by high water on a peninsula at the Maas bij Itteren and refused to leave has been freed from his plight and sailed to shore. This happened on Friday afternoon mainly due to the efforts from employees of Free Nature, who anesthetized then dragged it onto a boat using a winch and then sailed it to the safe shore at Itteren (municipality of Maastricht). There, the animal, still unconscious, reached the mainland.
