Without a doubt, restomods are one of the hottest commodities in the collector car world right now. Taking old cars and making them into more comfortable, more drivable vehicles has become all the rage. However, for purists, a good old-fashioned affordable hot rod is tough to beat. That is the appeal of our feature truck, a 1949 Chevy 3100 Five Window pickup.
This Chevy 3100 started with the original steel body. New rear fenders had to be fitted, but the rest was in reasonably solid shape. The paint is an artificial patina finish with a flat clear coat. Reclaimed barn wood lines the bed, with new polished stainless steel strips filling the gaps. A single-piece windshield has been fitted, along with new door latches, tail lights, and 17-inch American Racing wheels shod in deep Firestone rubber. The suspension has been lowered with a Heidts-style Mustang II independent front suspension with power steering and QA1 shocks in the rear. Stopping power comes courtesy of CP
