Ministry backtracks on school s exclusion from zone

Ministry of Education/Nelson Mail The Ministry of Education left Dovedale School catchment out of the proposed enrolment scheme for Motueka High School, as above, but says it has now included the catchment on the back of public consultation. Some families had told her they would have sold up, and moved to a high school catchment area, she said. “We’re relieved that the Ministry of Education listened to our collective voice, and it’s given real security to our whole Dovedale community, that they now have a choice about where their children can go to school.” Finding out last week that Dovedale School would not become the only one of the Motueka kāhui ako’s 14 schools to be left out of the Motueka High School zone was a “massive relief”, Gianelly said.

Boy s teacher aide cut off after parents told they re not allowed to fund it

The call from the school came the day after Martin emailed Chris Hipkins to dispute his assertion that “there are available supports for all learners in existing state schools”. Martin had been hoping her son would be able to go to the school, but it now faces closure because it will not be brought into the state sector. She sent Hipkins a “tongue-in-cheek” email saying if the state sector would be providing the required supports for children with extra learning needs, she looked forward to the ministry paying the $2700 invoice for her son’s term two teacher aide fees.
