Martin Scorsese and
Paul Schrader are getting the band back together for a three-year Netflix series that will explore the origins of Christianity. Religion has played a big part in both Scorsese and Schrader’s careers, and the two worked together on what is arguably the best religious-themed movie of all time –
The Last Temptation of Christ. So the prospect of them reuniting for something like this is incredibly exciting and promising. Per Schrader, the show will be dramatized – not a docuseries – and will be called
The Apostles and Apocrypha.
Martin Scorsese and Paul Schrader have worked together on several stone-cold masterpieces –

Antiochus IV was the evil Seleucid king of the Chanukah story.
This Hellenistic Syrian despot reigned from 175 to 164 BCE. According to the first Book of Maccabees, in 167 (3594/95 on the Jewish calendar) Antiochus IV issued terrible decrees on the Jews of Jerusalem and Judea, targeting the very core of Jewish practice.

Eight Crazy Nights, and we all yelled at him when he told us he hated it. We didn’t care about the dismal reviews. We were just excited to see Hanukkah on the big screen, which made it feel like we were part of the holiday season, too. Yes, it was a juvenile, scatological cartoon musical, but it was
