(CNN) A Florida school principal did not commit a crime when she paddled a 6-year-old girl on the buttocks, as she appeared to have been asked by the child’s mother to discipline the girl, according to a review by the state attorney’s office.
The girl’s mother secretly recorded the incident at Central Elementary School in Clewiston, Florida, on April 13 after the school phoned her to say her daughter had damaged computer equipment. The family’s attorney, Brent Probinsky, said the woman was told to bring $50 to the school to pay for damages and that sometimes children were paddled.

The elementary school principal caught on tape hitting the pupil with a paddle has been cleared of any criminal charges, the State Attorney s Office confirmed on Friday.

For those of us who were whipped, that paddling sound brings back some not so fond memories.
The Clewiston Police Department in Florida says they are now investigating a case of Central Elementary School Principal Melissa Carter paddling a student in front of her mother.
That paddling was caught on video by the student’s mother.
“The family’s lawyer, Brent Probinsky, said Clewiston police have turned over the investigation to the State Attorney’s Office for the 20th Judicial Circuit, which includes Hendry County. The state attorney’s office is deciding whether they will bring criminal charges against Carter and Cecilia Self, a clerk at school also in the video, Probinsky said.

After the assistant translated Carter’s words for the mother, family lawyer Brent Probinsky said the principal took out a paddle. The mother began recording the incident which included the student being struck multiple times while Carter’s assistant held the child down.
“You better be glad you’re not my daughter, because I would spank you all the time for acting like that,” Carter said in the video.
The Hendry County Sheriff s Office received a copy of the video from the student s mother and is investigating. The Hendry County School District also received a copy of the video and placed Carter on administrative leave during its investigation.
