Babies in intensive care unit receive special quilts ‘made with a lot of love’ Posted May 09, 2021 Quilts made through a collaborative effort by an Eastern Michigan University professor, local Kiwanis clubs and the Preemie Pals quilters group go to the neonatal intensive care unit at Mott Children s Hospital in Ann Arbor to protect babies from bright lights and loud sounds. The quilts go home with families when they leave the unit. | Photo provided by Cyndi EtslerCyndi Etsler Facebook Share WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – Seven years ago, Mike Becker retired as a clinical care specialist in Mott Children’s Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). He joined the Kiwanis Club of Tecumseh and later found that members of Kiwanis groups made quilts for the babies and families in the NICU units to provide them warmth and comfort, as well as a keepsake for when they go home.

Lansing woman killed in head-on crash in Jackson County View Comments HENRIETTA TWP.  A Lansing woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening in Jackson County, according to the sheriff s office.  The 41-year-old woman was driving north on M-106 near Plum Orchard Road at about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday when she tried to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone, according to the Jackson County Sheriff s Office.  Her vehicle collided with a southbound vehicle head on and she died from her injuries on scene, according to the sheriff s office. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

1 injured in crash Tuesday

Hillsdale Daily News The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office reported a 34-year-old Springport man was injured Tuesday evening in a car deer crash in Moscow Township.  A news release indicated sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of Moscow Road, near Mosherville Road, at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday for the single-vehicle crash.  The injured male driver identified as Joshua Scott Norman was transported to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital in Jackson for treatment by the Somerset Township Fire Department.  The passenger, 35-year-old Anita Jill Norman, was not injured.  The Normans were traveling southbound on Moscow Road when their car struck a deer. Both were wearing their seat belts.

Litchfield apartment fire under investigation Hillsdale Daily News LITCHFIELD A male and a child were transported to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital in Jackson after a fire broke out in their apartment Sunday afternoon in Litchfield.  Litchfield Fire Chief Scott Skelly said the adult male had minor burns and paramedics transported the child for evaluation in case of smoke inhalation.  Fire broke out in the upstairs apartment around 12:20 p.m. Sunday at 204 Southfield St.  Skelly said all fire personnel cleared from the scene around 3 p.m.  The Michigan State Police Fire Marshall Division was on site with Skelly Monday morning to investigate and determine what caused the fire.

Hillsdale woman killed as vehicle hits tree in Cambria Township

Coldwater, MI, USA / WTVB | 1590 AM · 95.5 FM | The Voice of Branch County Mar 13, 2021 11:13 PM CAMBRIA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A Hillsdale woman was killed late Friday afternoon when the vehicle she was a passenger in struck a tree. The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened in the area of Bankers and Cambria Road just before 5:15 p.m.. Deputies report a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 81-year-old Richard Rockwood of Hillsdale was heading east on Bankers Road when it failed to negotiate a curve, went off the road and struck a tree. The passenger, 59-year-old Pamela Hannel, was pronounced dead at the scene.
