With COVID cases rising rapidly in the U.S. and along the Coast, the Ocean Springs Rotary Club partnered with Singing River Health System and the City of Ocean Springs to host a community COVID vaccine event.
Within the first hour 32 people showed up to receive their vaccination. Those interested in getting a COVID shot had the option to choose from the Pfizer or Johnson and Johnson shots.
The U.S. announced its first confirmed delta variant COVID-19 case in March of this year. It’s now the dominating variant nationwide, making up 82 percent of all new infections in the country. Ocean Springs Rotary Board Member Henry Furr said, “The reason that we are doing a really big push now is the delta variant is a lot more contagious than the previous COVID. The vaccine, while there has been some breakthrough in the vaccine, the people are not going to the hospital, they are not dying. That is the difference.”
