The 8¢ lilac Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman stamp was issued March 21, 1893, to pay the new 8¢ registry fee that went into effect on Jan. 1, 1893.

Short sets of the lower denomination stamps (Scott 62-70) are inexpensive and plentiful. The full set is rarely offered.

The stamp designs depict a seeing-eye dog, a therapy dog, a military working dog and a rescue dog.

Because they saw little use, some postal cards and airmail postal cards are much more valuable in used condition than in mint condition.

Mint Official stamps were not publicly sold until after they had gone out of use.

In December 1919, the Canal Zone issued two postage due stamps by overprinting and surcharging stamps of Panama in carmine ink.

Ascension issued its first stamps in 1922 and continues to issue stamps to the present day.
