Indiana Landmarks Black Heritage Preservation Program is working to preserve Indianas Black history one site at a time.

Indianas history is incomplete without the stories of Black Indiana.

Imagine reading a book with chapters torn out. Or watching a movie that’s missing scenes. Or trying to describe a family when you’ve not met all of its members.

The Black Heritage Preservation Program at Indiana Landmarks seeks to include the history of Black Hoosiers ― often excluded ― in Indianas history.

Local non-profit, Indiana Landmarks has embarked on a mission to preserve forgotten Black historical sites statewide.

This week, IndyStar launches Voices of the Community, a podcast that will highlight local residents who impact our city from behind the scenes.

Thanks to a recent $5 million Lilly Endowment Inc. grant and other financial support, Indiana Landmarks is expanding its boundaries beyond just preserving buildings.
