HOUSTON A Houston couple claims they lost half a million dollars in jewelry that was stolen from their home due to the negligence of their homeowners association and its contracted security provider.
Swapnil Agarwal and Deepika Agarwal filed a complaint April 18 in Harris County District Court against Universal Protection Service LP and Royal Oaks Residential Community Owners Ass n Inc., alleging negligence.
According to their complaint, the plaintiffs live in the Royal Oaks community in Houston and pay dues that cover security expenses for the neighborhood which adjoins a country club. They allege that the defendants have been negligent in protecting their neighborhood which resulted in their home being burglarized on Aug. 3, 2020, and the loss of $500,000 in jewelry which was taken from their residence.
