US: Strong Intl Consensus Against a Taliban Military Takeover
The US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad has said that a Taliban plan to seize control of Afghanistan with a military takeover would not be acceptable to the world.
According to a statement from the US embassy, Khalilzad emphasized that there was strong consensus within both the regional and international community against any effort by the Taliban to pursue a military takeover. Only a negotiated settlement can end over 40 years of war in Afghanistan and Ambassador Khalilzad pledged common cause with Afghan leaders to accelerate efforts to reach an inclusive settlement and permanent and comprehensive ceasefire.”

Attacks and civilian casualties:
Last week, 24 attacks happened in 15 provinces Logar, Nangarhar, MaidanWardak, Kunar, Ghazni, Herat, Jawzjan, Kabul, Kandahar, Khost, Laghman, Faryab, Ghor and Helmand.
Around 70 civilians were killed and 163 others injured in these attacks.
Foreign Envoys Meet in Doha on Afghan Peace
Envoys from the United States, Russia, China, and Pakistan as well as Taliban negotiators held a meeting in Doha on Friday with the main focus on the Afghan peace process.
The discussions focused on the peace process, Afghanistan’s situation, the release of Taliban prisoners and the removal of their leaders’ names from the blacklist, Taliban spokesman Mohammad Naeem said.
He said that all sides agreed that practical work should start on removal of the names from the blacklist.
Republic negotiator Fawzia Koofi said that achieving peace will not be easy in the absence of a sincere role by Pakistan.
