High Desert Museum Welcomes New Baby Otter

High Desert Museum visitors will have their first official opportunity to see the new, baby North American river otter on Wednesday, September 21 when he joins two other otters full-time in the Autzen Otter Exhibit. The Museum will celebrate the addition of the male pup, now approximately 5 1/2 months old, at 2:30 pm. Visitors will be able to view the pup, who is yet to be named, as well as the other two male otters in the Museum's care, Brook and Pitch. Naturalists will be at an Otter Fodder Interpretation Station to share interesting scientific facts about this mammal, as well as pelts, skulls and other interactive items to engage visitors. "North American river otters are so playful and engaging, and they have so much to teach us about riparian ecosystems," said Museum Executive Director Dana Whitelaw, Ph.D. "We're excited for the public to share the excitement of welcoming this new addition to the Museum." The General Election is right around the corner and the League of Women Voters of Deschutes County is hosting a pre-election refresher in their next First Thursday meeting. Mark your calendar for September 1st for the "Voting and Election Updates with Steve Dennison, Deschutes County Clerk" Dennison is the chief election official and keeper of all public records in Deschutes County. He'll share the Clerk's office plans, coordinates and conducts all elections in Deschutes County. The Clerk's office ensures that elections are conducted according to statute and other related requirements. Bring your questions for Steve as we prepare for the upcoming November General Election. High Desert Rendezvous Sold Out, Auction Online

For the first time since 2019, the High Desert Museum's signature fundraiser, High Desert Rendezvous, will take place in person at the Museum on Saturday, August 27. Tickets for the gala are sold out but everyone can participate in the online silent auction and raffles. The silent auction opens today, Friday, August 19, at 9:00 am online and is available to all. Auction items vary from a getaway at the Headlands Coastal Lodge and Spa in Pacific City to courtside Portland Trailblazers tickets to front row seats at the 112th Pendleton Round-Up. Find the bidding portal at hdm2022.ggo.bid. Online bidding ends on Monday, August 29 at 12:00 pm. Tickets are also on sale now for two raffle prizes at highdesertmuseum.org/hdr.
