Necessity of Establishing Ranking Cell at Universities Mohammad Monir Hossain 23rd December, 2020 11:37:30 The higher education system, around the world, has been seriously affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The physical and face to face teaching-learning has been postponed since the beginning of the year 2020. In Bangladesh, all the educational institutions have been shut down since 18 March 2020. Since then, all educational activities of those institutions are being done online although there is debate regarding the quality of online teaching-learning and assessment system. Quality of higher education and research in Bangladesh is always a debatable issue. The Ministry of Education of the Government of Bangladesh along with the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh has taken a number of initiatives to enhance the quality of higher education in the country. Establishment of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in each university under the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of the Ministry of Education, UGC & the World Bank and establishing the Bangladesh Accreditation Council through passing a bill in the national parliament are worth mentioning among those initiatives.
