Marne had filed anticipatory bail application, in connection with the case registered with
Hinjawadi police station. In second week of February, a special court for Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) had acquitted Marne (54) and his 13 aides in connection with the murder of Santosh Hiraman Gawade alias Pappu, a
rival gang member, for lack of evidence. Marne, after being released from Taloja Central Prison, apparently conducted a huge rally, including over 500 vehicles.

Punawale was allegedly tried to be abducted by four unidentified persons in broad daylight on the service road of Mumbai-Bangalore highway. According to the IT professional, he had given a lift to a khakiclad person appearing to be security personnel but his three accomplices joined that person to abduct him before he showed the presence of mind of stepping out of the car and running away.
