I would stay at the hotel and she warned me even if I went outside to take a walk, there were blocks we can t walk so please be careful.
Many have criticized San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin for his lenient handling of repeat offenders. After a live interview with Dion Lim shortly after the tragedy, where he did not address her questions about finding solutions, he announced he had reached out and spoken at length to Mrs. Abe.

Along with members of the Japanese community who still showed up to pay their respects was a man named Theo Smith, who identified himself as McAlister s uncle. Through tears he expressed his deepest apologies to the Abe and Platt family and believes the DA should have kept his nephew behind bars. I don t know why the released him. I really cannot understand that. I think they should have (stayed in jail) .I love him, he s my nephew but still and all shouldn t have been here. You commit a crime you gotta pay for it, especially taking lives.

Two women killed in a hit-and-run on New Year s Eve will be remembered during a vigil Wednesday afternoon at the scene of the collision in SoMa.
“I think Hanako’s death should be a critical lesson for the whole society to create a system to prevent such disastrous incidents from happening,” Hiroko Abe, mother of 27-year-old Hanako Abe, said in a media advisory about the vigil. The mother has traveled from Japan to arrange for transportation of her daughter’s remains.
Troy McAlister, 45, was released from a prison sentence for robbery in April and was not charged with new crimes by the District Attorney s office after being arrested in November and December.
