Bob Tamasy: Darkness Only Makes The Stars Shine Brighter Thursday, June 3, 2021 - by Bob Tamasy
Bob Tamasy
“Night is when the stars come out.” How many times have you heard people say that? Seems right, doesn’t it? But if it’s true, where have the stars been? If they’ve just come out, where have they come from?
Of course, we know the stars are there all the time. It’s just because of the brightness and comparative proximity of our sun, they can’t be seen during the day. That is, unless we’re using a powerful telescope or, better yet, board a NASA or SpaceX rocket and venture beyond our atmosphere. Then, away from the illumination of our sun, we would have the opportunity to get a better glimpse of the countless stars – much larger “suns” – that populate our vast universe.
Committed to a Cause or to the Christ?

He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” (NASB)
How do you express your faith? Is it evident mostly through the great Christian causes you support? Your local church? The Fellowship of Christian Athletes? Operation Christmas Child? Eight Days of Hope? I love to support all of those ministries in various avenues of serving and giving. But are they the front line expression of my faith?
It’s something I have to be reminded of all too often: The expression of my faith must be focused on the Christ whom I claim to serve, the only One who can truly change my life. And my world.

What does emptiness look like? Can you touch it? How do you measure it?
“Why does the feeling of emptiness occupy so much space?”
1
When emptiness creeps into our lives we look for a way to fill that void, little knowing Jesus has an entirely different solution, as Mary Magdalene found out that Resurrection morning.
The Emptiness of Loss
Jesus is dead. Mary Magdalene is desolate as she takes spices to His tomb.
Sometimes we feel like Jesus has abandoned us. A tragedy shakes us. Or we’ve slowly lost purpose and meaning in our lives. We despair at what feels like Jesus’ silence when it may be a step to something greater. But if we have everything we want, we wouldn’t realize how desperately we need Jesus. That leads us to begin our search for Him.
