Austin police are still looking for two men who they say held up and tried to rob a pharmacy in Central Austin earlier this year.
In Sept. 2, authorities said two men tried to rob a Rite Care Pharmacy located near the intersection of 38th and Guadalupe streets. On Wednesday police again asked the public s help in identifying the two suspects.
The men both who were described as being about 6 feet tall and in their early or mid-20s entered the a pharmacy around 2:13 p.m., according to authorities.
Police said the two men held employees at gunpoint and demanded opioids. The two then forced the employees to lie on the floor face down and fled after learning the pharmacy did not carry them, authorities said.
The county s pandemic death toll is now 122, according to the local health department.
County health authorities on Tuesday reported that 165 more people in the area tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing the total case count to 9,175.
Hays County health officials also said 166 more people recovered from COVID-19. As of Tuesday, the local health department currently estimates that 7,625 people have recovered from the coronavirus.
Hays County health authorities on Tuesday continued their calls for residents to limit holiday gatherings and activities.
“We strongly recommend staying home when possible, avoiding crowds and large gatherings and holding small holiday get-togethers or celebrating virtually,” Harris said in a written statement. “It’s up to each of us to do our part to protect the community and our loves ones.”
The number of new coronavirus cases continued to surge in the Austin-Travis County area on Tuesday, with local health officials reporting 672 new cases in a single day.
The last time that the area saw a larger single-day coronavirus case count was on July 9, when local health authorities reported 703 cases, according to the county s online dashboard.
As of Tuesday, the total case count for the Austin-Travis County area was at 46,701, according to health officials.
In the five-county Austin metropolitan area, hospitals reported 70 new admissions of patients with COVID-19 on Tuesday.
Of the 349 people who were in Austin-area hospitals on Tuesday with the coronavirus, 90 were in intensive care and 52 were on ventilators, officials said.
Austin police say a man wearing a blanket over his shoulder and armed with a knife robbed a North Austin convenience store over the weekend.
Police said the robber, who was described by authorities as being about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and between 35 and 40 years old, walked into a 7-Eleven store near the intersection of Research Boulevard and Burnet Road around 4:47 a.m. on Sunday.
The man initially acted as if he was going to buy items but then threatened a store clerk with a knife and demanded money before running away, police said. The man, who had a University of Texas Longhorns blanket draped over his shoulder during the robbery, ran north on Burnet Road and then went east, according to authorities.
A Texas-based nonprofit that assists law enforcement agencies with search and recovery on Tuesday said it is suspending efforts to find a Texas State University student who was reported missing last week.
Jason Landry, 21, was reported missing Dec. 13 in Caldwell County after a car that he was driving was found crashed in an unincorporated area of Caldwell County, near Luling.
On Tuesday, Texas EquuSearch said it will stop looking for Landry until law enforcement officials gather more information regarding his possible location.
In a Tuesday news release, the organization said the search has utilized multiple tools, including helicopters, search dogs and drones, to look for Landry in the past nine days.
