Campaign aims to get young people to vote in May elections

The Government has confirmed that it is pushing ahead with the 2021 local elections.
In Maidstone, electors will have a voting spree because in addition to the regular four-yearly Kent County Council elections, the elections for a third of the borough council seats, which were postponed last year because of Covid, will also be held.
Few young people vote
On top of that there will be the postponed election for the Police and Crime Commissioner, postponed Parish Council elections in Barming, Boughton Malherbe, Boughton Monchelsea, Boxley, Bredhurst, Chart Sutton, Coxheath, East Farleigh, Headcorn, Hollingbourne, Hunton, Linton, Marden, Stockbury, Teston, Ulcombe and West Farleigh.

We have become familiar with the stories of wartime heroism from our servicemen at the front during the last war, but what of those left at home to Keep Calm and Carry on?
Tony Webb, of Newbury Avenue in Allington, shares this history of his father, Keith Webb, who was a bus driver for Maidstone and District bus company for 40 years - including the entire 1939 to 1945 conflict.

Born in Hollingbourne in 1903, Keith Webb attended the Duke of Yorkâs Royal Military School in Dover as a child and as result became a man of smart appearance and discipline throughout his life. He joined M&D in 1928.
Streamline Taxis has offered a reward for the safe return of dog-napped Daisy to her Hollingbourne owners

A taxi firm has joined the campaign for the safe return of Daisy the dog by offering a substantial reward.
Natasha Acres, a director with Streamline Taxis, said: It must be horrible for Daisy s owners at the moment and we feel for what they are going through. We want to do anything we can to help.

The cocker spaniel went missing, believed dog-napped, from Upper Street in Hollingbourne at around 8.50am on Monday, January 18.
Operation Brock to be deployed in Kent tonight
Highways England has tonight repeated calls to drivers not to travel to Kent as the border to France remains closed.

21 December 2020 Operation Brock is part of a plan to keep traffic moving on the M20 during periods of cross-Channel disruption.
The company said any HGVs which arrive in Kent tonight will be diverted to Manston Airport to park.
Operation Brock is being set up tonight on the M20 motorway in Kent as part of a plan to keep traffic moving on the M20 during periods of cross-Channel disruption. It involves using a contraflow road layout on the M20 London-bound carriageway between junctions 9 and 8 (from Ashford to Maidstone) and directing lorries heading for mainland Europe onto the coastbound carriageway, where they can be queued if necessary.
