TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Big money is coming to the City of Tucson and parts of Pima County for homeless programs, some which were set to end soon.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development recently awarded Arizona more than $46 million dollars to continue assisting about 80 programs in our state and in our area.
“From the 2019 to the 2020 point time count, there’s a 60 % increase in people experiencing unsheltered homelessness,” said Daniela Figueroa.
Figueroa is the Board Chairperson for Tucson Pima Collaboration to End Homelessness, which funds local homeless programs. She said 1,000 Pima County households have sought hotel crisis shelters during the pandemic.
