Steps are being taken to address the growing camping problem in Santa Cruz.On Friday, city leaders unveiled new restrictions on where homeless people are allowed to set up camps.Homeless campers are seen just about everywhere in the city taking up space where you wouldn t expect them like here along the Highway one-Highway 9 corridor-as well as public parks.Now the city plans to manage this. Definitely these issues are very visible in our community right now. This is really our first step, said Santa Cruz Mayor, Donna Meyers.Some of the restrictions include no campsites that hinder first responders from their duties or doing things that could put campers or others in danger. That includes things like fire-prone areas or flood-prone areas. w/hen those two risks are present, said Lee Butler, Planning Director and Homelessness Response with the city of Santa Cruz.Camping will be allowed between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. on sidewalks located outside areas that are deemed prohibited or ope
