A win for food pop-ups: Alameda County legalizes home cook businesses starting this summer

A win for food pop-ups: Alameda County legalizes home cook businesses starting this summer FacebookTwitterEmail Shereen Hassan-Aly cuts vegetables as she prepares soup in Newark. In July, she’ll be able to apply for a microenterprise home kitchen operation permit from Alameda County.Lea Suzuki / The Chronicle After a string of high profile pop-up shutdowns during the pandemic, Alameda County is set to become the second Bay Area county to formally allow cooks to sell hot meals out of their homes this summer. On Tuesday, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to legalize these “microenterprise home kitchen operations,” essentially giving chefs a green light to turn their kitchens into small restaurants. The goal is to have a permitting system in place and applications go live July 1. Cooks must agree to health inspections, obtain food safety certification and pay an annual permit fee of $696.

Fresh dish from the Legislature: Homemade and legal! » Albuquerque Journal

.... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... For some, homemade food is one of life’s small pleasures – like that moment when you bite into a gooey chocolate chip cookie right out of the oven. For others, making homemade food is a hobby, a way of life and even a career. Unless, however, you live in New Mexico. New Mexico’s laws have made it very difficult to sell homemade food, which hurts those who want to use their talents in the kitchen to support their families and their farms. Thankfully, that is about to change. The governor signed the Homemade Food Act on Wednesday. The new law will go into effect in July.
