They are the only students from Fort McMurray to be honoured; and only 12 awards were given across the province. These awards “celebrate exceptional First Nations, Métis and Inuit students nominated by members of their education communities, based on their exemplary leadership, courage and commitment to their cultures and educational paths.” This year ASBA received 204 nominations.

The award that Lundgard had received is a provincial award sponsored by the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA). The award celebrates the uniqueness of students that inspire teachers, peers, and education leaders with a total of 204 nominations submitted province-wide, only 12 students had been selected to receive this award.

Pamela Mackay, Youth Education Support Worker had nominated Lundgard for the award. Mackay had expressed in a phone interview that Lundgard’s involvement with different initiatives has been significant.
