It Happened in Crawford County: The Hord Family

The Hord Family Farms history, as shared by fifth generation Phil Hord. About 1905, Guy Hord purchased a tract of land, still owned today, on the Crawford-Marion counties  line just off Ohio 98. It’s called a Century Farm over 100 years old. His family farm, over his lifetime, grew to over 500 acres, a large farm at the time, with row crops and fruit orchard. He raised other animals; some were pigs. It was a traditional farm. One of his 12 children was Robert M. “Bud” Hord. He liked farming a lot and began on his own in 1946 with some land and 10 hogs. He bred and raised pigs from the mother hogs. There was a ceiling on hog prices during a portion of WWII because they needed the by-product for materials.
