Global Sustainable Tourism Council launches business travel training | Business Travel News Europe

Photo Credit: Gerd Altmann/Pixabay The Global Sustainable Tourism Council is staging a four-week online course teaching sustainable business travel from 10 May. It will be followed by an optional exam leading to a certificate for those who attain the 75 per cent pass rate. The course is led by sustainable business travel consultants Bernard Harrop and Horst Bayer, and GSTC CEO Randy Durband. Topics covered include sourcing emissions data, measuring the financial impact of sustainability and creating sustainable business travel policies. Registration fees are US$445 for the course and US$75 for the exam, although there are discounts for group bookings and those with financial needs.

Share Setting a budget for company travel is daunting enough in a normal year. Right now, when business trips considered perfectly unremarkable during pre-Covid times aren’t even legal, any kind of forecasting is uniquely challenging. Even so, companies need a broad idea of how much they will pay once what is typically their second largest controllable expense is switched on again. To achieve a figure, they have to consider unit costs (average fare and hotel rate per trip) multiplied by the number of units they will purchase – in other words, how many trips they are likely to take. Calculation of the latter is being changed irrevocably by not one but two crises: coronavirus and the climate emergency.
