Jeremy Vandehey is the Director of the Health Policy and Analytics Division at the Oregon Health Authority (OHA). Mr. Vandehey spoke with State of Reform about the most pressing pieces of legislation moving forward and the importance of expanding coverage and equity within the health system in Oregon.
Patrick Jones: Over the past year during the pandemic, how has your work at the health policy and analytics division changed? What are you spending the majority of your mental energy on, specifically on your division?
howard schultz and michael bloomberg are showing the real split in the democratic party, whether the party should go with a centrist moderate, joe biden or bloomberg or go with the progressive left. we don t know how it will pay out. there is a lot of passion on the progressive left, women and minorities, who can best beat donald trump and should he run for re-election, playing out as we speak. isn t it interesting another candidate stumbles on healthcare? this has been happening since 1992. we had hillary care, obamacare. the twists and torturous turns, back room deals with big pharma. back room deals with the hospital associations, this is such an extraordinarily
obamacare repeal effort isn t dead yet. no, i m hearing changing by hour about mitch mcconnell s plans. still one of the great masters of getting things through in the senate. i m not letting my guard down till we see what we need to see, democrats and republicans starting to work together as opposed to the outrageousness of what we ve seen already which is bills being crafted, plans laid behind closed doors. americans realize, that was without even america involved, without nurses or doctors or hospital associations. so those sort of scheming from behind closed doors has to stop. we have to realize there s no democratic or republican way to get this done. there s an american way to get this done. americans are happy with the gains we made under obamacare but all of us know there are improvements that need to happen. we need to get to a point where every american is covered with affordable quality care and that s the work we should be dedicating ourselves to. i want to get your rea
