The combined impacts of high tides and very large waves on the morning of Dec. 28 on Capitola Village were all too similar to what happened on Jan. 5, 2023, and also in the first week of January in 1983.
Since its beginnings as a resort in the mid-19th century, Capitola was considered one of the most beautiful and safer of the surf bathing locales along the central coast.
