House Republicans advanced a new bill Monday that would ban institutions from using state or federal money to fund diversity, equity, and inclusion programs at Florida state colleges and universities.
Students were protesting House Bill 999, which would remove state funding for programs and courses that promote diversity, equity and inclusion unless required by federal law or regulations.
Florida House Bill 999, which seeks to eliminate "diversity, equity and inclusion" programs and certain college majors, advanced in the state House. It is supported by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Under a bill moving in the Floirda House, schools would not be allowed to require or “solicit a person to complete a political loyalty test as a condition of employment or admission into, or promotion within, such institution.”
A proposal has begun moving forward in the Florida House that would allow colleges and universities to steer endorsement deals and other compensation opportunities toward student-athletes.
