Iowa National Guard welcomes home 60 soldiers with Camp Dodge ceremony

Des Moines Register After about a year in the Middle East, the Iowa National Guard s Boone-based aviation unit   the Charlie Company Griffins is home. The Iowa National Guard hosted a ceremony at Camp Dodge on Saturday evening for the 60 soldiers of Charlie Company, who returned from their deployment in September and October. The ceremony was planned not just to welcome the soldiers home, but to also thank them for their service. It is good to recognize the troops for the hard work and accomplishment and the sacrifices they had to do while deployed. The troops need to hear it. Sometimes they don t think that they need to but they always need to hear that they did a good job, 1st Sgt. Jason Zeliadt said.

Inauguration security: Iowa National Guard to send 265 troops to D C

The increased security measures come after a crowd of Trump s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol Jan. 6 in an attempt to interfere with Biden s confirmation hearings.  Airmen from the 185th Air Refueling Wing based in Sioux City and the 132nd Wing in Des Moines, as well as soldiers from the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, based in Boone, will make their way to Washington D.C. for an estimated eight days, according to the release. The other National Guard members will be coming from 44 states, three territories and the District of Columbia.  Soldiers and airmen will be tasked with logistical support of military personnel by the 185th air refueling wing and 132nd Wing and  support to civil authorities by the 2nd infantry brigade combat team, according to the release. The National Guard members deployed will also aid the U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Capitol Police and D.C. Metropolitan Police in traffic control, crowd management, logistics and communic
