Locally loved Currarong centenarian Betty Press marks her milestone surrounded by family and friends.

LOS ANGELES — Phyllis Coates, who portrayed “Superman” Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane, has died. She was 96.

Phyllis Coates, the first actor to portray DC Comics' Lois Lane on television, died Oct. 11 in Woodland Hills, Calif. She was 96.

Phyllis Coates was perhaps best known for portraying Lois Lane in both the 1951 film “Superman and the Mole Men” and the first season of TV's “Adventures of Superman.”

A one-time chorus girl, Ms. Coates brought the iconic character to the small screen in 1952.

She replaced Noel Neill, who had played Lois in two Superman movie serials; Ms. Neill in turn replaced her after one season.

The trailblazer passed away from natural causes Wednesday at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills her daughter Laura Press confirmed to THR.
