Del Rio Sector Border Patrol Sees Increase in Encounters

DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol stations in the Del Rio Sector continue to experience a significant increase in encounters despite the many associated dangers.
Since the beginning of Fiscal Year 2021, Oct. 1, Del Rio Sector has encountered more than 31,000 individuals, approximately a 193 percent increase over the same time last year.
For some, the journey proves to be dangerous. Agents in the Del Rio Sector have rescued more than 275 individuals attempting to illegally enter the United States, a 425 percent increase over Fiscal Year 2020.

BRACKETTVILLE, Texas – Smugglers fired several rounds at Border Patrol agents during a lengthy vehicle pursuit, Jan. 3.
Early Sunday morning, Border Patrol agents attempted to stop a suspected alien smuggler on Ranch Road 334 near Brackettville.
The driver subsequently pulled over and fired a weapon at agents from the vehicle before driving away. The vehicle, a black Chevrolet SUV was spiked by local law enforcement partners in Real County and, when the vehicle came to a stop, the driver fled on foot.
