Human Libraries in over 80 countries feature people who volunteer as books, offering “readings” on their personal experiences to nurture conversations and, ultimately, understanding.

Stories in the Human Library are shared through one-on-one conversations with members of the community with unique life experiences or challenges, like overcoming a disability, being an immigrant, or living as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

The ongoing 27th Book Expo Thailand 2022 offers more than books as reading material. You can also learn from ‘human books’ similar to The Human Library movement, which began in Denmark.

3rd – 9th October is National Libraries Week and this year’s theme is ‘Never stop learning’.

There is a lot to be learned from a book, but the human story can be as valuable as any teaching tool in today’s society. In an attempt to learn from others in our community and to not judge a “book” by its cover, the public is invited to hear off-the-page stories come to life in the University of Kentucky Libraries’ Human Library™ on Monday, Sept. 19, at the Gatton Student Center Ballroom.
