This year, and im not just talking about academy awards. Im talking about the progress that we re making after very challenging. Several years as we are bringing our Community Back after covid in the wake of anti asian hate, as we move things forward, and each of you again has been a part of that. I also want to say that San Francisco this year theres so much that we are doing to continue to anchor our status as the Asian American capital. And that includes the fact that this fall in november San Francisco is going to be the host city to apec, which is the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation leadership summit where we will be hosting literally heads of states from countries to our east, representing where our communities came from, and its going to be an incredible moment to showcase who we are. Um. I know today were going to be acknowledging a lot of folks and shortly were going to be hearing from our great mayor. Were going to be hearing from our city administrator. I want to take a m
The world. This is new day. Its thursday, march 19th, 2020. Its 6 00 here in the new york. The breaking news this morning the entire state of california is on lockdown. Overnight governor newsome enacted sweeping measures ordering 40 Million People in his state to stay home indefinitely. Only exceptions to get food to go to the doctor or to care for someone or perform an essential job. The governor showed research 56 of residents, 25 Million People could be infected over the next eight weeks. That would crush hospitals in that state putting 20,000 patients over capacity. At this hour the most recent count of confirmed cases in the United States tops 13,000. Again, certainly higher than that. Thats only what we know from testing. Even with this its 51 increase from yesterday. Governors across the country are sounding the alarm. Weve been hearing this alarm all week. But were still not sure why there. More progress. Doctors need more medical and protective supplies. The they say they are
Political contributor jake sherman. Theres a lot to talk about at the start of the week. Michael cohen and donald trump are accusing each other of being liars. You know what, they could both actually be right. They could. Actually they are. On that point at least both of telling the truth. But well talk about the ongoing fight about president ial pardons and how it impacts everything. Plus the president pencils in billions of dollars in the new budget for the border wall. That is the american budget, not mexicos, whom he repeatedly promised would pay for the wall. I guarantee it. Yeah. And lots of new moves in the 2020 race, Bernie Sanders and Julian Castro are trading jobs at each other and keeyrsten gi l gillibrand. And trump reportedly telling donors that democrats hate jewish people and their broad representation in the Democratic Party compared to republicans. Three sources who were there but were prevented by security from recording the event tell axios that President Trump made
Of staff. Take a listen. I think that alex will probably be sharing more information with you all, but the reality is that the Defense Attorneys in that case actually tried to get alex removed because they thought that he was such an aggressive prosecutor. And as you heard alex say yesterday, we welcome the fact that there is additional evidence that can be prosecuted. The crimes are atrocities and certainly should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. So whether anything he says, question is will it change minds. Democrats may not be the only ones that want to show him the door. Blit compa politico reporting that Mick Mulvaney has urged President Trump to dismiss acosta and told trump that the continuing drip of damaging information surrounding the 2008 agreement acosta struck to keep Jeffrey Epstein from a heavy jail sentence would hurt the administration. Just yesterday President Trump praised acostas work in his cabinet, but you the president also saying this ive known hi
